iPhone Apps for Airports that do not even Offer Free Wifi?

This post will simply open up debate for further discussion…

When I landed in Zurich yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised to see a bright, shiny, glowing billboard advertising ZRH Airport’s free iPhone app (see below). I’m not sure what kind of money ZRH spent on this…but presumably it’s for passenger convenience.  However, it seems to me that this sort of app would have just as much value for the friends or relatives picking passengers up than for the actual traveler him or herself.

By chance, does anybody else besides me think it would serve the greater good for ZRH to offer free wifi (which they could sponsor for more than the cost of operating it), rather than developing and subsequently advertising an iPhone app?  Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the app and happy to see it…but I wonder whether some airports have gotten ahead of themselves and ignored the basic necessities while offering bells and whistles.
