jetBlue Trying to Get Away With It by Launching a Gameshow!

It may look a little Smurfy at first glance, but jetBlue is set to make history by becoming the first airline-cum-gameshow operator. From June 18th through 22nd, the airline will be streaming a travel trivia game live online from a New York studio.

Hosted by the slick, smooth-talking Mark Hammerberg–a character seemingly straight out of the 70s–contestants on Get Away With It will answer questions about jetBlue and its destinations, with correct answers being rewarded with jetBlue travel packages. To maximize the social element, the game will feature mobile and social elements involving Buzzfeed, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Viggle.

Get Away With It is just the latest in an evolution of airlines doing more than flying planes, and demonstrates just how far the social era has stretched the creativity of marketing departments throughout the industry. While there is surely a cost in producing the show, this is a perfect example of how airlines can think creatively to spread a focused message to key audiences, spending their money on the message rather than the platform.
